Online Music
As technology advances, it became harder each day to support oneself as a musician. Good songs are often, if not always, uploaded onto video sites such as Youtube or other file sharing platforms. Of course, with all those people working on laws and debate, there will not be any infringement of copyrights. When its on Youtube, it surely does gain popularity and recognition, but it imperils the music from extraction of sound of the videos and etc. In short, technology is a double edged sword for those musicians. Unless you have a solid amount of faithful fans who are willing to spend money on those CDs or songs, you won't make any money. I highly doubt the songs are what boost those top tier singers into prosperity. I suspect its mostly the side products from fame, such as acting or commercials, that contributes to their income. From time to time, I fought against my conscience when ripping those songs out of those platforms, not for the affluent singers, but those that just started their career. Good music can drop out of the market without financial support. I believe, one day, when I have money to do so, I will buy them.
